ALBUM REVIEW: Revenge – Strike.Smother.Dehumanize

REVENGE are back with their first full length since “Behold.Total.Rejection”, a massive album to follow. With such a malevolent and marvellous track record, this new slab of bestial assaults is certain to be something to behold. Out via Season Of Mist on May 22nd.

Wasting no time on introductions, Revenge fire into caustic riffing, blastbeats and the usual maniacal vocals, delivering an instantaneous blow of rampaging vitriol. Spewing forth their renowned brand of Black-Death violence, this album is clearly no less visceral than their previous works, this can be said within about 15 seconds. Punchy grooves, destructive hooks and ferocious onslaughts are dropped like heavy artillery in a violating and decimating manner. Thundering on with savage precision, each piece continues to up the ante in intensity and disdain.

Ravenous swathes of scolding instrumentals and vocals continue in the utmost punishing fashion to conjure the flames of pure hatred. This is not the kind of Extreme Metal for background music, this is an abrasive assault of the senses which any Revenge fan of course will know. The blistering solos add a frenzied touch to the rhythmic battery and barbarity that only accentuates the intense obliteration that is offered. Fantastically blasphemous and volatile, as the record continues pounding the skull into pieces, is is genuinely difficult to predict what will come next.

With some doomy moments akin to “Scum.Collapse.Eradication” but presented in the far more well-known violent manner of their other works, this is perhaps the most diverse Revenge album, with a tight balance that never feels weak. Just as destructive, if not more so, as a result of this balance, the 10 tracks concoct a malignant array of bestial craftsmanship that is truly something spectacular to behold. A storm of ritualistic ferocity that demands total respect, which it deserves. Once again Revenge are delivering the most unrelenting, caustic and hideous Black Metal tinged with insanity.

Revenge have spoken with their new offering of malice. A crushing opus of depraved, unhinged Extreme Metal destruction. Total barbaric ferocity and unholy annihilation is what we are given here in a punishing array of scornful pieces that create a monolithic tempest of grotesquely harsh Black-Death Metal assaults. Another excellent release by one of War Metal’s most legendary bands. -9/10
