This review is of a new project entitled ABYSSIDIOUS of which little to no information seems known. A Black Metal project that promises violent spiritual decadence and bad trips, this should certainly be a memorable one. Set for independent release on May 15th.
Kicking things off with dissonant riffs, blastbeats and maniacal vocals, Abyssidious does not require any form of introduction other than a savage concoction of demented instrumental insanity. With plentiful nuance to be found within the instrumentals as they chime and convulse with spectral discordance among riveting drum assaults and tortured screams. With this being the first appearance from the band, I have to state how marvellously unique and unforgiving the songwriting is here. Truly astonishing.
Throughout the demo we are treated to warped yet ambient soundscapes of hellish, ritualistic warfare that is not only packed with uncomfortable, unhinged dissonance but also a rather ambient approach that is as captivating as it is mesmerising. Howling with disdain and a decadently sombre but unmistakably forceful swathe of emotional torment, Abyssidious certainly knows how to conjure an emotionally diverse, sparse and relentless form of Black Metal that washes over you like an acidic rain.
Hammering on, we continue to see an infernal pathway unravel into resplendently visceral pieces that are strung together with a level of insanity that may be jarring to some, but with an unfalteringly dark performance most Black Metal fans will certainly find something hideous to adore in these six monoliths of depravity. Clearly there has been endless work put into every tiny detail of the ambience, endless layers of riffs and intricate drum programming. All of this lays a gorgeously upsetting foundation for the vocals to devastate any sense of sanity with.
An impeccable first demo that encapsulates a magnificently depraved, bold and uniquely impactful sense of dread, hatred and introspection from Abyssidious. I do not doubt that there will be fantastic things to come from this mysterious project, this being a monumentally brilliant starting point. Profoundly unpleasant and wonderfully malignant, a truly masterful debut. -8.5/10
