DEMO REVIEW: Church Of Disgust – Consumed By Slow Putrefaction

Maggot Stomp Records have another slab of filth to unleash, this time the new demo from CHURCH OF DIGUST, as per usual, let us prepare for some truly odious Death Metal.

Whammy dives and chugging guitars bellow into a monstrously brutal and guttural groove of convulsive riffing and blastbeats that spews forth a malignant blend of instrumental warfare, accompanied by viciously growled vocals. Immediately the strong resemblance to Cannibal Corpse in both the music and the production style is recognisable, something I think all Death Metallers can appreciate. Church Of Disgust take things in a different direction though with plenty of influence from Finnish Death Metal creeping in to add some eerie, sewer-drenched nuance to the grooving storm of meaty extremity.

The guitars solos are tight and melodic while the rhythmic onslaught is cavernously and appropriately dismal and gritty, providing a perversely hard-hitting slab of mighty, gruesome and morbid music. Swampy, foreboding and packed with whiplash hooks, this demo is definitely one to bang your head to. Pounding in with the second track, some killer drum and bass work stands alone before the full band regroup with a visceral energy that is obliterating with its putrid stench that reeks of classic Death Metal from the 90s. Do not sleep on this grimy, rancid trio of vomitous malice, for it is utterly excellent. -8.5/10
