In their bid to bring putridly thuggish Death Metal across the underground scene like a plague, Maggot Stomp have the new EP of INOCULATION ready for your personal displeasure. Out now.
Dissonant technical riffs and monstrously grooving bass over some maniacal cymbals bring us straight into a jarring and incredibly proficient array of sounds. The well balanced mix of screams and growls stay with the musical ability to keep you on edge and gives a similar feeling to a much more grisly version of Revocation as they thrash out nasty convulsive Death Metal. It is marvellous the way the music swirls into a guttural, swampy blend of odiously disgusting extremity from the much more clean-cut beginnings to really hit that vile vomited sound we were all waiting for from a Maggot Stomp release. Utterly impeccable precision keeps this punchy and to the point with the tapped guitars being perfectly played. Blistering lead work completes the sound as the EP storms through melody and discordance alike. Overall this is a flawlessly technical release that doesn’t feel pretentious or overkill but clearly shows some brilliant musical ability while keeping in the true Death Metal vein of totally vitriolic disembowelment. While this may not be as “caveman-like” as we all anticipated, it is still an excellent release. -7.5/10
