Belarus’ Raw Black Metal mystics PA VESH EN are back with a new EP or murky depravity. Out now via Iron Bonehead Productions.
Eerie ambient soundscapes set the EP off to an unsettling and creepy start that is brooding with melancholy and despair. Rampaging drums and storms of guitars jump into an obliterating concoction of dismal and visceral Black Metal onslaughts with tormented screeches. The sudden attack of this material following the almost tranquil introduction is not only powerful but also excellent transitioned, staying on an emotionally upheaving pathway into depraved and magnificently dark expansions of the mind. It is clear Pa Vesh En are keeping on track with their previous material to release unwaveringly aggressive yet depressing material with a glistening aura of wonderfully psychotic soundscapes. With such a piercingly raw sound, there is no escape from the hellish violation that is undergone when listening to this band.
Each discordant, murky riff gets under your skin while the drums pound them into your skull. In addition to the lurking instrumentals, the vocals permeate the air in a maniacal and disturbing manner. This is bitter, with no respite or mercy being shown. Slower tempo tracks suck as “Shrine Of Malice” contradict the faster assaults in a volatile manner, showing dynamic but keeping the vile disdain of the most extreme pieces. Undeniably cold, there is a somewhat classic feel to the sounds on the EP while never falling into the trap of predictability. Each piece will ensnare and torment you with its emotionally antagonising and anguishing soundscapes of pure misery. Hypnotic and mesmerising, there is no escape.
Another marvellous release from one of the best Raw Black Metal acts in existence. Otherworldly, emotionally cold and despairing while ferocious, this is definitely one of those EP’s that takes time to recover from listening to. Be prepared to enter a void of melancholy and anxiety as the claustrophobically dense soundscapes of Pa Vesh En entrap your very being and leave you quaking in the wake of this fantastically unhinged EP. -8.5/10
