ALBUM REVIEW: Barbaric Horde – Axe Of Superior Savagery

Following two demos, Portuguese War Metallers BARBARIC HORDE have their first album of blasphemous decimation to offer. Out now via Godz Ov War Productions and Rex Diaboli.

Epic and eerie sampling sets off the record with an unsettling and disturbing introduction. Hammering drums and abrasive riffs alongside a slew of caustic vocals spew into life with total violence and carnage. Thundering grooves and Black Witchery style riffing convulse with the hardened War Metal savagery I had hoped for when seeing the artwork. Delivering total obliteration and maniacal musicianship, this is a barbaric and morbid sound that certain conjures something unholy into fruition.

Marching onwards through rampaging soundscapes of bestial warfare, Barbaric Horde have a superbly raw and untouchably intense sound that certainly does not lack aggression. Each piece of music is an extremely satisfying and unrelenting storm of utter hatred and volatility wherein the instrumentals and vocals are utilised in unison to concoct a macabre and vitriolic spew of visceral Extreme Metal mayhem. This is some crushing material that is not for the weak of heart.

This is destructive, old school War Metal performed with utmost passion and fury. The whole record feels like an explosive assault of the senses with no respite or compassion, just monstrously heavy Black-Death onslaughts to destroy all that stands in its pathway of ravenous musical artillery. Barbaric, filthy and guttural, this is exactly the type of War Metal that keeps the genre going so strong. Everything feels to the point, never wasting time that could be spent causing annihilation of the listener which must be respected.

This debut full length is a damn impressive slab of blasphemous War Metal savagery that is certain to win the adoration of the most hardened manics with the relentless bestial decimation to be found in this music. Portugal has a unique and interesting Extreme Metal scene and this is certainly a valuable addition to it. -8/10
