Austrian Thrash Metallers DEATHSTORM are back with their fourth album of necrotising old school material. Set for release via Dying Victims Productions on July 31st.
Pummelling drums and ripping riffs kick us into a maniacal onslaught of thrashing madness. Pure ferocity and diabolically morbid instrumentals are met by savage vocals, delivering butchery and total darkness. Immediately Deathstorm conjure up the early sounds of Slayer, Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Possessed and the like with a masterfully primal and energetic assault of pure Thrash Metal excellence. A dynamic mixture of tempos and soaring solos give texture to the lunatic speeds of the record, diving into deathly and eerie territories.
Onwards we surge through more cataclysmic barbarity with unrelenting aggression and so many fierce, untamed ideas being unleashed. Somewhat raw production completes the old school feel while tight musicianship assures a focal and driven sound for the band. Decimating all in their path, each song strikes with violence and massacres you with utterly riveting Thrash Metal that is brilliantly energetic and keeps things rolling with fresh changes and progressions while never straying from that primitive and macabre feel they started out with.
Revelling in total carnage and obliterating all with their monolithic riffs, visceral drums and powerful vocals, Deathstorm release something addictively destructive on their new record which will certainly capture the teutonic Heavy Metallers hearts along with anyone who appreciates the ravenous aggression of 80s Thrash Metal. Grooving sections give the record some really catchy moments that linger in the mind while the more savagely performed assaults hit with equal ferocity. There is definitely plenty of replay value on this album which hits just as hard after the initial spin.
Deathstorm have no intention of being innovative, they clearly feel it is far more important to preserve the earlier incarnations of Thrash Metal and do so magnificently. One cannot deny their passion for dark and evil thrashing musical madness and they deliver it with precision and aggression in abundance making for a definitely enticing slab of violent mayhem. Old school thrashers must not miss out on this killer record. -7.5/10
