ALBUM REVIEW: Front – Antichrist Militia

Following a demo and a full length, Finnish War Metallers FRONT are back with a mini album of bestial desecration. Out via Iron Bonehead Productions on June 5th.

Unsettling samples start things off, definitely giving the impression that there is some ferocious warfare to come, warding off the weak and preparing us for decimation. Thrashing riffs and blasting drums dive right in with a vicious vocal performance and raw production, delivering total War Metal mayhem. Completed by whammy bar abuse, this certainly has all the great hallmarks of a killer bestial record within about a minute. Pummelling and hammering forth, the Extreme Metal artillery that these Finnish maniacs launch at us is unrelenting and obliterating with sheer violence.

Crips riffs and tight musicianship are clearly present here though never feel too showy, concocting primal and morbid music with a masterful brilliance that is abrasive yet enjoyable all the same. A visceral cacophony of unholy, blasphemous instrumentals and roaring vocals continually delve into evil and conquering soundscapes of pure devastating proportions. Occasionally War Metal can be really catchy, this is a fine example of that, with tons of groove and insane rhythmic battery that is contagious in its blend of aural hellfire.

Do not for a second be led to believe this is some easy listening Heavy Metal, this is totally fierce, vicious and deathly extreme material that spits out a brutal and caustic display of thrashing, blackened and deathly heavy blend of destructive bestial warfare. With elements of Bestial Warlust and the like rather obvious in the sound, there is a lot to love for fans of Australian Extreme Metal which is always a good thing however Front have their own approach that is uniquely punishing and memorable in its own right.

War Metal fans, Black-Thrash fans and lovers of all things Extreme Metal in its most evil and brutal form will adore this slab of insanely catchy, murderous and downright barbaric savagery that in just over twenty minutes leaves nothing but desolation in its wake. Do not miss out on this feral mini-album of Finnish War Metal excellence. -8/10
