Following a demo and an album last year, American Raw Black Metal project VALAC is back with a new demo of unhinged cascading depravity. Out via Appalachian Noise Records on March 31st.
Stunning clean guitars set the vampiric, ancient Black Metal mood off to a mellow yet gripping start. Static growls and soaring guitars dive into raw cascades of malice with howled vocals and hammering blastbeats, a ferocious blend of utterly disdainful and mystical Black Metal. A primal yet abrasive assault of pure Black Metal, no unnecessary touches, just total chaos and malevolence. Mesmerising and hypnotic, the repetition of ice cold riffs draws you in while frenzies of melodically cold guitars, pounding drums and psychotic vocals delve into a hellish array of ferocity.
There is nothing peaceful or pleasant to be found here, a caustic onslaught of demonic snarls and vibrantly twisted instruments is what you get. Creating a tormenting and spectral soundscapes of aggressively daunting ambience with morbid violence and ritualistic musicianship. Piercingly harsh, untamed and destructive Black Metal with nothing held back, this is a killer demo of brilliantly unsettling excellence. Though fierce in all the right places, there is a disturbed melancholy that also shines through beautifully, giving more dynamic to the sound that is utterly monstrous.
Definitely a release I can see all fans of Raw Black Metal really enjoying for its macabre, primitive charms and demonic riffing amidst unholy blastbeats and inhuman screeching. Packed with groove, chilling atmospherics and savage assault, this demo is an obliterating new chapter of excellence for Valac. -7.5/10
