ALBUM REVIEW: Snorlax – II

Back in January, Australian Blackened Death Metal mob SNORLAX put out their debut full length album, I felt it was overdue that I shared my thoughts on this destructive record. Out now via Brilliant Emperor Records and Mallevs Records.

Grinding in with cavernous riffs and punctually obliterating drums amidst an inferno of ravaging screams and growls, the extremity of this band wastes no time in creating a pummelling introduction for itself. Savagely blistering guitars create a blend of filthily disdainful atmospherics as the whole band churns out a putrid soundscapes of chugging, chaotic, blasting Blackened Death Metal ferocity. Packed with grooves, the snarling instrumentals are volatile but regularly have these catchy hooks that are perfectly headbanger friendly and make for a magnificently exciting listen.

The tormenting nature of the instrumentals are met with equally maniacal vocals throughout as the band deliver a demonically atmospheric yet fast-paced and visceral record. Powerfully hectic, the energy and drive of this album is utterly insane with a really unique and disastrously brutal display of pure vitriol. A bellowing blend of odious guitars, hammering drums and spewed vocals creates a stoically unsettling and malevolent atmosphere balancing piercing Black Metal and crushing Death Metal gorgeously. There is definitely no faltering in this unrelenting slab of Extreme Metal violence.

In just over twenty minutes Snorlax concoct some of the most hectic assaults of pure Blackened Death Metal ecstasy with their tomes of tribulation that hit hard, fast and with ambience to spare. Sewer-like soundscapes and morbid blasting frenzies are used interchangeably to give an unpredictable and memorable experience while the songwriting and musicianship delivers tenfold with monoliths of pure devastation. Disgusting yet also rather beautiful in a rather estranged way, do not let this pass you by for as long as I did as this record is damned marvellous. -8.5/10
