Russian Black Metal aggressors ULVDALIR have a brand new EP coming. Following their last full lengths which was one of 2019’s best Black Metal albums, it is great to see them return. This new offering is set for release via Inferna Profundus Records on March 20th.
Morbid ambience starts off this four track journey into the bowels of hell with unsettling orthodox chants, well-suited to a Slavic band, an eerie and haunting introduction. Ferocious guitars, demonic vocals and an inferno of blastbeats suddenly make a forceful appearance, bellowing into a devilish blend of true Black Metal might with an unfaltering tempest of aggression that ravages all in its path with immense grooves, touches of melody and an onslaught of tremolo riffs and blasting drums with some killer whammy dives thrown in for good measure.
The mystical sounds of Ulvdalir are just as strong as on their previous record, delivering a conjuration of total malice and otherworldly disdain, fired forth with a spewed blend of magnificent vocals and instrumental prowess. This EP definitely possessed the necro-sounds one desires from underground Black Metal, concocting an inhuman and chaotic assault of the senses with utmost proficiency. True morbid extremity and savage Black Metal maniacs, giving us four tracks of total devastating heaviness and obliterating intensity. An unrelentless tornado of pummelling, spiteful and marvellous underground mysticism.
An utterly unhinged and volatile yet well balanced and paced EP. These tracks have packed in all of the aggression, melody, atmosphere and pure crushing hatred that one could ask for and more on top of that. Without any weakness, no dull moments and every section put together excellently, this beautiful slab of mayhem will torment you to your core with pure Black Metal destruction that retains the primal energies of the genres inception while showing skilful musicianship and with a more clear production style. A brilliant new addition of piercing barbaric madness to Ulvdalir’s already astounding discography. -9/10
