ALBUM REVIEW: Vulcano – Eye In Hell

Brazilian Extreme Metal mob VULCANO are back with their eleventh full length album of Thrash Metal warfare. Out now via Might Music.

Hammered drums and thrashing riffs soon dive in with morbid vocals waste no time in firing out a slew of aggressive extremity that pummels through a storming march of ferocity. A viciously old school sound to the music which may have stepped back on the Black and Death Metal parts somewhat but still delivers some totally ruthless Thrash Metal brilliance. The intricate riffing and thundering drums make a perfect backing force to the ripping violence of Luiz’s vocals, a freighter of pure monstrous thrashing madness.

High-octane battery and maniacal speeds are the mainstay of this record with the unholy chaos of Vulcano offering precision and dauntingly intense material, as one would expect after such a lengthy career. Obliterating yet with melody and evidently some masterful instrumental skills that really shine through in the drums and lead guitars but definitely are not lacking elsewhere, Vulcano have definitely been refining their talents over the years. While I must admit I miss the ridiculously extreme nature of “Bloody Vengeance” with its Blackened Death-Thrash assaults wreaking total havok, Vulcano have definitely become a much more fine-tuned force to be reckoned with. This is some magnificently harsh, unrelenting and just excellent Thrash Metal.

The second half of the album is definitely the better as a monolith of momentum picks up with crushing, whiplash hooks, huge drums and savage vocals, delivering a much more intensive and obtrusive assault of pure filthy Extreme Metal malevolence. While the first half is still great, the latter part of the album just feels more naturally coherent and punishing with a marching rhythm of pure hellish proportions that I think any Metalhead can get behind. This record is definitely a grower, with plenty of repeat listen value as the overall build, climax and overall feel of the album is one that grows really nicely into something devilish.

Just as demonic as ever, Vulcano have a blistering slab of Heavy Metal violence to offer the world, a call that should not be ignored. Submit to utterly frenzied, crushing Thrash Metal aggression with the true old school sound of early Sarcofago, Kreator, Sodom, Possessed and Destruction, the way it was meant to be. Vulcano are back in business, ready to decimate everyone on this pounding hell-ride through the abyss. -7.5/10
