ALBUM REVIEW: Cemetery Filth – Dominion

After an EP and three splits, CEMETERY FILTH have their first full length album set to unleash gruelling old school Death Metal havok on the world on April 13th via Unspeakable Axe Records and Boris Records.

Meaty Death Metal riffs fill their air with the destructive pounding of drums pummelling in. Immediately the stylistic brilliance of bands such as Bolt Thrower, Asphyx, Benediction, Autopsy and so on comes to fruition with thundering bass lines that are followed by annihilating grooves from the full band. Gruesome vocals growl away over savagely excellent riffs and blastbeats, delivering the truly impeccable with a monstrously brutal old school Death Metal assault. The production of the record is tight with a huge sound that is suited marvellously to the monolith of morbidity that Cemetery Filth have to offer. A definitively crushing sound that is completed by frenzied yet melodic solos cutting through the chunky rhythmic onslaught.

There is a well spaced momentum to this album with plenty of killer drum fills and cool nuances that tie together the vicious blend of massive riff avalanches and insanely proficient drum work alongside the rupturing gutturals of the vocalist. Unfalteringly strong, there is never a second that feels meek or pointless, with an obliterating display of fantastic musical prowess and encapsulation of utterly classic Death Metal. Each song follows the previous transcendently, all flowing smoothly with a scourging scathe of destruction. Although this is nothing we hadn’t heard back in the early 90s, this is truly astounding worship of the classic sound, following the true old school Death Metal almanac to perfection and giving a splendid offering of utter magnificence.

Packed with groove and savagery, there is a gorgeously diverse blend of doomy slower sections, melodic lead work and chaotically ferocious blasting assaults, each working in unison to make a decimating slab of Death Metal excellence which is unrelenting, catchy and stunningly executed. Pure morbid old school material which nails all of the points one would hope for on a Death Metal record. A storm of stomping, pulsating, groovy monstrosities that will have every Death Metal fan won over by its aggressive, whiplash hooks and headbanger friendly onslaughts. -8.5/10
