Polish Black Metal has always had some really interesting acts, MISANTHROPIC RAGE being no exception, this latest offering is out now via Analog Ragnarok Records and Godz Ov War Productions.
The album has plenty of traditionally enjoyable Black Metal from the off with blastbeats, grimy riffs and snarled vocals but the use of clean singing and avant-garde progressions are what make this beast stand out. From very early there is a captivating and haunting sense of dread and melody intertwined in the riveting aggression of the musical extremity. Although a bombastic feeling comes through from the murky production and eccentric songwriting, there is still razor-sharp precision and drive backing the band and driving out spearhead of decimation forth with some truly astounding originality. This isn’t the pretentious Avant-garde Black Metal so many people dread, this is violent and brooding hatred in an estranged soundscape that delves into the truest forms of extremity while keeping things uncomfortable and volatile marvellously. Unholy, obliterating and in some parts, catchy. This is certainly an interesting release to say the least, one I found to be totally brilliant for its bold direction and fantastic overall execution. If you like your Black Metal on the weirder side, then give this a try because I certainly found it worthwhile with its ritualistic magnificence and scathingly bleak atmospherics. -8/10
