Hot on the heels of their 2018 debut full length, WRAITH are self-releasing their 2nd album to bring another bout of fierce Blackened Speed Metal warfare. Out on August 16th!
The album needs no introducing, firing right into gorgeously speedy riffing and upbeat drum debauchery before the howling maniacal vocals complete the ferocious mix. Quiet lead shreds help the song rip into existence with its catchy grinding warfare hitting hard, the way a Black-Speed Metal band should with a blistering onslaught of fun, upbeat musicianship. A continued drum battery and barrage of bestially macabre riffing keeps spewing true 80s mania to back up the cascade of scorching vocals, giving the complete package with gnarly riffing, gorgeously impactful drum work and truly gruesome vocals all with a minimalist yet absolutely sufficient production style that drives the nail in. Unexpectedly there is some more mid-tempo crossover sounding sections that will certainly convince anyone who is not already headbanging to join the party before we are given more blasphemous ripping aggression. The third track actually slows things further with some almost doomy riffs that work surprisingly well with the swinging groove of the music, adding a bit of tension and an excellent sense of diversity to the morbid hellish inferno of searing speeds, especially when bluesy guitar licks are added to the mix. While I loved the variety that WRAITH has to offer, the main attraction is their mentally deranged thrashing attacks, which there is certainly no shortage of with truly impeccable instrumentals and vocals alike that conjure up a ferociously phenomenal slab of nostalgic yet refreshing speeding blackened soundscapes. The charmingly primal urge to go totally crazy to this endlessly stimulating and unrelenting record is not a request from the band, but a demand that must be fulfilled. I fail to see how anyone could not being enticed by its thrusting stomps of sonic debauchery. Punchy, groovy, fast and loud, this record is exactly what we want from bands like this and they certainly deliver the unholy assault with precision and attitude. For the many of you, like myself who are fans of Hellripper, Bastardizer, Midnight, Bewitcher etc, this release is a essential and WRAITH should be joining the ranks of these bands. -8.5/10
