ALBUM REVIEW: 1914 – The Blind Leading The Blind

While this review is one of my most belated with the album coming out in November 2018, I wanted to share some thoughts. So this is my miniature review of the 2nd 1914 album. Available now via Napalm Records.

1914 are a Ukrainian band that blend Black Metal with some Death and Doom elements to make for a brutal and emotional barrage of extremity with a theme surrounding the horrors of the First World War. Throughout the album we are given powerfully mournful instrumental work with a gorgeous production that feels like artillery shelling from the unrelenting guitar riffs and blast beats that encapsulate the deafening of the war the band write their music in memoriam of. Lyrically the album is chilling with a truly upheaving performance filled with a raw passion that truly does unsettle you due to its ferocious theme. Filled with grooves, blasts and totally mesmerising atmospherics, this slab of battle-hardened Blackened Death-Doom is a must for fans of Heavy Metal with a truly eerie sound that is crushing and rings true with a theme so close to many hearts. A brilliant record that truly leaves a lasting impact, make sure to get your hands on this magnificently pummelling affair. -8/10
