Here I review the new Sinmara album, slightly belated, thus it will be more of a summary but I did not want to miss this one (and one other album which shall be posted shortly). Available now via Van Records.
So, what to expect from Sinmara? Walls of glistening guitars, intricately fierce drum patterns and howling, tormented vocals. There is a monstrous and menacing mixture of melody and dissonance that makes for a bleak yet incredibly enjoyable listen that is mesmerising. Certainly an album to revisit many times for the huge number of nuances to be found within the seething and seemingly chaotic songwriting, esoteric structures and mysterious shrieks. This is some of the most solidly balanced, uniquely brilliant and luxuriously tasteful bands in Black Metal. A densely packed, gorgeously structured and unique album filled with volatility and exciting turns. Twisted, disturbing, beautiful, melancholic, piercing and utterly unforgettable. A must for Icelandic Black Metal fans. -9/10
