Here I review the debut full length album from Death Metallers MUSMAHHU. This will be a shorter review as the release has been out for over one month, but I certainly would like to use this platform to offer it some praise. Available now via Iron Bonehead Productions.
The album fires right into blistering and grooving riffs with a decimating soundscape of the macabre being instantly conjured. The intense atmospherics and gruesome vocals are immediately impactful and crushingly dense in tone. Storming rhythms and blast beats with odious growls really take the battering assault of the music into the furthest extremities of Death Metal, with the solos adding flare but not anything obnoxious. Dismally doomy vibes are constantly present within the song structures that cascade darkness and despairingly depraved morbidity. I could not find one moment of this album that lacked an exhilarating and intense pace, killer songwriting or total strength. A ferocious and foreboding release that offers absolutely prime Death Metal with no weakness or dull moments. While remaining consistently pummelling and grotesquely cavernous in sound, the momentum doesn’t allow itself to dry out or become repetitive. Within the dominant Death Metal sound of the album there is also some blackened and doomy flourishes on the atmospheric side of things that really elevate this release into a whole new dimension. Do not let this album miss your purchases for 2019, a thoroughly excellent and blisteringly brutal release that is totally brilliant from start to end and incredibly unique. -9/10
