ALBUM REVIEW: Encoffinized – Chambers Of Deprivation

Here I review the heavily anticipated Encoffinized album, released on February 15th via Maggot Stomp Records! Time for song grisly Death Metal!

  1. Rotting Away sets in with eerily peaceful horror style sampling and psychedelic ambience filled with an instinctual sense of foreboding. Doomy guitars and slow rhythmic drums soon kick in with vocals that simply drip gory hate forth. Picking things up into pinch harmonic driven grooves, everything is set for a really epic old school Death Metal sound that slams and snarls out pungent noise. The track is primal and rivetingly catchy, a great way to start things. Hammering from the drums and grinding guitars really set a perfect foundation for the harsh grunts over them. Fantastic!
  2. Inter-dimensional Abominations of The Dark Abyss fires us more cascades of odiously dark Death Metal. The sheer brilliance of the drums with the tremolo riffs perfectly sets a dungeon-dwelling soundscape for the monstrous vocals. The pummelling decimation of the track is perfectly orchestrated, filled with total malevolence. Momentum that can knock you off your feet is what this song drives out with utmost hate and disdain, brilliantly done with a sound like thundering storms of awe-inspiring brutality.
  3. Metamorphic Putrefaction grooves into more doomy riffs with killer drum fills, taking a more atmospheric and slow-pace approach. Do not let that fool you into thinking this is at all laid back. The piece quickly build into more gristly warfare. The convulsive songwriting with obliterating instrumentals and vocals alike creates more tormenting music with hellish visions of putrefying man come to life along with it. This material really takes you into a morbid domain parallel to reality. The vocals are horrifically grotesque with such consistency. Excellent.
  4. Crushed At The Left Hand churns out more upbeat chaos with punchy drums, buzzsaw guitars and demonic vocals again. The intricacy of the drum patterns tied with more primal guitar riffing sounds really unique and gruesome, a totally unrelenting force. Cavernous soundscapes of ferociously huge sounding music are conjured up gorgeously into a monstrosity of awesome extremity. Chunky riffs, slamming drums, gurgled vocals, it’s all here for the perfect recipe of darkened and smouldering Death Metal.
  5. Funeral follows up by driving out more well paced guitars and built in drums, taking some doomy elements into the driven, brutish force of Death Metal. Punchy yet reserved this piece is unhinging in its dark journey. I think the use of slightly slower pieces such as this really allows momentum to rebuild, atmosphere to grow and diversity to add energy to the primal assaults. There are faster parts within this track that actually feel pretty joyful due to the chords used, an interesting, unique and damn awesome choice. Good stuff!
  6. Stillborn Embryonic Death belts out more macabre violence with full speed attack from every angle and instrument, of course the vocals matching this. The grinding bestial violence is truly hideous in a crushingly depraved and brutal manner. Surging out layers of crusty Death Metal that is volatile and unnervingly tense. I really enjoy the band letting passion and simplicity speak rather than using pretentious stylistic choices, they keep the old school Death Metal style as it was intended. Another absolutely ferocious and brilliant track.
  7. Chambers Of Deprivation is the closing piece. Starting with even more crushingly brutal vocals over dense walls of guitars and drums making punishing assaults on the senses, this is not a traditional “ease out” final track. This piece is more one last shot at bludgeoning the listener with everything the band has, the full ferocity and energy of all the previous tracks and most importantly an equally fantastic song. A great way to go out in total violent style, a wonderful final battering from Encoffinized!

This is some absolutely ferocious and pungent Death Metal with a cavernous sound, grisly production and intense songwriting from start to end. The primal but effective musicianship truly bludgeons you throughout listening. Absolutely excellent. -8.5/10
