Here I review the brand new, 2nd album from INSTANT. This is a short album from Finland the I am hoping will still pack its full punch with the shorter running time.
- Subject To Mockery kicks right in with groovy riffs and pulsating drums, the truly old school feel of the music is crushingly dense and filled with dissonance. Furious musicianship filled with aggression is ever-present with a grandiose depravity to the sound that is perfect. The grotesquely grunted vocals suit the frenzied barrage of assaults perfectly to complete the raw yet concise mix. A killer opening track.
- No Solace follows suit with more cascading morbidity from the guitars that is punctuated by more upbeat, killer drums. The grisly vocals soon rejoin to take this Death Metal rampage into full throttle. The songwriting is simplistic, primitive and deadly effective with production to match. It is an amazingly harsh piece that is just ferocious. Great work on this one.
- Decay Buried Deep is brought in by some wicked drum fills before churning more brutality out with the full band. The chaotic, grinding death-noise is just awesome with a totally hideous assault in the most awesome, old school way possible. The catchy grooves of the music allows you to be immersed in the frenzy. Fantastic.
- Align The Serpent blasts out even more chaotic, violent and damn awesome blast beats and riffs, covered with more absolutely crushing vocals. There is a hell of a lot of feedback which sounds really cool in the album too.
- Submerge grinds out more brutality with some more absolutely epic drum work that is met with doomy guitars and a really furious performance from the whole band. The epic grinding attack is raw with no holds barred and perfectly performed in a chaotic and dissonant manner. This is some truly harsh, down to Earth extremity that has no bells and whistles, just pure honest Death Metal mayhem. There are some more atmospheric, blackened touches to this song which work beautifully to give it some diversity while remaining true to form. Absolutely amazing work.
- Left Headless In The Swamp starts off with feedback that turns to menacing grooves once again. The truly thunderous roar of the track is catchy and totally headbang worthy but still filled with ugly dissonance that I just love. The songwriting remains primal yet filled with aggression and is just really enjoyable to me. Tracks like this just demand respect with no mercy. Brilliant!
- Longing For Grief closes the short album with the longest track by far (at nearly 5 minutes). Beginning things with more doomy soundscapes and a far slower tempo I think this song is going to be a slow burner, but am proven wrong when the killer blast beats jump right in to barrage us while the driven guitars slowly build into menacing atmospherics. The upbeat stampede of the song drives in out of nowhere with some slamming brutality that is just crushing with some absolutely vitriolic vocals laid over the gruesome instrumentals. This closing track is a nicely varied final piece to the release that I really enjoyed. Excellent work!
This is some truly grotesque and decimating old school Death Metal. The short but punchy album is fantastic from start to finish with a dense macabre vibe to it. Excellent work! -7/10
