EP REVIEW: Devouror – Slay For Satan

Here I review the new EP from Devouror, set for release via Metal Zone Records on January 21st. This is the first release from the newly formed band which have a bold biography, now let us see if these claims are fulfilled.

  1. The Decapitator opens things with eerie sampling that perfectly sets the war themed mood of the album. Firing into blast beats and groovy riffs almost immediately that are topped with gruesome vocals, all met with pretty tight production. The obliterating music is absolutely fantastic and filled with raw anger that is channelled into this pummelling, grinding assault beautifully. The guitar solo is a blistering shred that works excellently with the rest of the band. The harsh attack of the piece is perfectly suited to the visuals, really offering a complete package. A killer opening track.
  2. Ritualised Debauchery comes right back in with frenzied assaults once more. The hideously harsh walls of guitar noise with ridiculously fast drums sounds gorgeously dark with the grisly grunts of the vocalist. There is nothing in this that takes away from extremity offering purely epic and violent music with utmost consistency. The thrashy parts of the song really kick it up a notch with plenty of headbang worthy riffs throughout. There is a more melodic side to this piece that really accentuates the more chaotic sections gorgeously. Another excellent piece.
  3. Atomic Crossfire grinds in with rhythmic drums and more destructive guitars that build into another furious piece of total carnage. The mixture of Black, Thrash and Death Metal works so perfectly together and this band show the true capability of this fusion. The catatonically heavy track is a grand gesture of fury that totally decimates. The flow of the EP has been so concisely brilliant and this piece is no exception. Once more the solo adds some grandiose yet simplistic melody to the otherwise primal assaults which gives a nice yet small piece of diversity to the music. The ending section is so damn intense. Great work!
  4. INRI closes the relatively short EP with more blackened riffs that soar over the groovy drums beautifully while the vocals take us into hellish realms once more. This closing piece gives us one last short drive of battering assaults from the band, opting out of “outros” for a final blasting and fantastic piece of totally furious mayhem. A great way to end a great EP with some great bass lines that shine through in the mix nicely. Fantastic!

This is some absolutely phenomenal Blackened Death Metal that gets in, absolutely slays then leaves, with no filler material needed. The blistering aggression and frantic instrumentals with a crushing vocal performance to match is so damn tight. A brilliant debut release. -8.5/10
