Here I review the upcoming EP from Japanese Black Metallers ABIGAIL!
- Unholy Bestial Fire opens with raw recorded fast paced Black Metal mayhem. It is pretty atmospheric with an old school primal style, the vocals are the thing that stand out most to me, they are really dark and well done. The riffs are reminiscent of bands like Darkthrone, Burzum and Gorgoroth. The pure 90s Black Metal worship is done pretty well here. The lead guitar work is really awesome too! A good opening track.
- Nuclear Hammer brings a second wave of aggressive and bestial Black Metal. The drumming is absolutely unforgiving and really killer. The harsh vocals and simple riffing on this track combine absolutely amazingly. The song builds up in a really nice classic Heavy Metal kind of way with a really old school solo, but of course not forgetting the underlying Black Meal menace. Awesome work on this one!
- We Need Beer And Whisky takes a much more Black n Roll approach sounding like something by Venom or Motorhead but with much harsher vocals, I really enjoyed this song and how uniquely different it is to the others. An awesome interval from the blasting and assaulting tracks without losing any momentum the EP has.
- Black Satan Of War is the final track of the EP, closing things off with one more assault of brutal rhythms topped with hideously evil vocals. The still very upbeat pace of the song interluded with tremolo picking sounds fantastic. There is nothing incredibly heavy or advanced musically about this EP which I think is what makes it sound so cool, the primal and untamed nature of the music with no need for flashy parts, just pure hellish atmospherics.
This EP is some awesome Japanese Black Metal with a really forceful approach and skilled musicians, the vocals top it off perfectly and it is really old school too, The only thing lacking was some originality but aside from that awesome work. -7/10
