Danish Heavy / Speed Metal mob Steel Inferno are back with their fourth album! Out now via From The Vaults.
The first thing we are hit by is the crisp guitar tones and subtle drums underlining the melodic leads. Of course this conjures one thought, classic Heavy Metal! Tightly paced and furiously classic in feel, the instrumental excellence is met by sharp vocals that pierce the air magnificently. I discovered this band quite recently through trading and was quite happy to see they conveniently had a new release coming to check out after enjoying the disc I got. First up, their vocals have changed, but not for better or worse really (I like both). Other than that, they seem to be continuing doing what they do best, playing fast and melodic Heavy Metal filled with energy and passion, something I am certainly behind! The opening moments of this record are blistering and pull you in while having a raw authenticity that keeps it true to the bone!
With a connecting tissue of more Speed/Thrash Metal direction, their classic metallic furore definitely has a nicely sharpened edge to it that ramps up the adrenaline. Jag Panzer, Agent Steel, Hallows Eve and Destructor are probably the best comparisons I can think of, all of which are definitely high complements. The sheer classiness of their song structures and the really stunning harmonies just evokes that fist-pounding spirit in any maniac perfectly. These are the kind of songs I expect would rip my face off live, and hope to be proven right someday, and in the mean time can totally pump me up on the record. Let’s keep going on the hunt for power!
Furious until the last, this record continues to provide banger after banger of raging torment. Their primal rhythmic attack mixed with complex musicianship embellishing it is ideal for all true headbangers to lose their minds and feel the steel of the old ways. Okay not a lot changes, but for less than 40 minutes I never feel bored or fatigued so there is no problem. Everything feels right and continues to belt out Heavy Metal cranked to eleven for the full running time which is what I’d hope from such a record. No bells or whistles, just straight-up killer music which rules throughout. Prowling the streets of Copenhagen, you better watch out for these old school rockers or feel their wrath, cos they got a need for speed and destruction that is gonna get satisfied…
Balls to the wall Heavy / Speed Metal with bucket of shredding melody, catchy choruses and an old school rawness that leaves this release feeling like a killer unpolished gem of the 80s waiting to be discovered. Nothing super original nor groundbreaking, but I’m fine with that. I adore some strong classic worship like this and the band pulls it off superbly. A really energetic and powerful cut that is well worth a listen (preferably at high volumes) and a delve into their back catalogue.
