SPLIT REVIEW: Chaotian / Deiquisitor

Two of my favourite Danish Death Metal flag-bearers have joined forces on a new split LP! Out now via Extremely Rotten Productions and Night Shroud Records.

First blood is drawn by Chaotian. Their ruthless and rancid mix of violent drumming and putrescent riffs is immediately lethal with some crushing grooves and equally impactful vocals. A strong sense of atmosphere but with a visceral execution is a perfect balance for this style that Chaotian nails gloriously. Their utterances of abhorrent morbidity quickly hook into your flesh as the tracks develop through waves of blast beats, meaty crawling riffs and tormenting snarls. Overall this seems like some of the bands strongest outputs to date with tastefully varied songwriting and obliterating amounts of heaviness. Each fleshy bar and tendrilous progression is exciting and the transitions have this natural fetidness that will keep you salivating for more sadism. The musicianship is superb with everything balanced gloriously. It definitely feels like Chaotian is a band who move from strength to strength without a weak move. Spewing forth a sea of lacerating extremity, there is not a moment when the ferocity dials back and through a diverse range of classic Death Metal worship, Chaotian forge a supreme concoction of death, decay and debauchery. Three songs is all it takes, total macabre mayhem with absolutely tons to offer and keep you coming back for more bludgeoning filth.

Turning over the decrepit corpse, Deiquisitor continues the fetid onslaught. As one of my favourite bands in the Death Metal underground of today, I am always excited to hear more from this trio. Their more raw and ferocious take on the genre combines some of the most intense drumming insanity with hammering bass lines and contorting riffs. The warped and vicious sounds are met by truly demonic vocals and the churning malice of Deiquisitor is complete. Inescapable and twisted, the four new offerings from this band are tough and formidable with an unhinged quality, held together by the extremely tight playing of the musicians. As both a killer band on record and a mind-blowing live act; there is nothing but the best things to say about Deiquisitor who have been consistently releasing some of the best Death Metal in the underground for many years now at an impressive rate. Conquering all in their path, skulls reduce to ash as these new pieces of pulverising brutality and savagery ensure none survive this two-pronged attack of ultimate death. Every second opens a new mortal wound in your being and the band do not relent until nothing remains.

As expected when two forces I adore so much join forces, this split is an immovable monolith of the highest quality Death Metal. Both bands have their own personality so as a dual attack give a strong and well-balanced experience in tandem. Every slaughtering song fits perfectly into this half hour of horrors and torture, scathing us with the best the underground has to offer. Denmark proves once again to be the home of some of the best Death Metal in the current day and age.
