ALBUM REVIEW: Acid Mass – Worship

Acid Mass is back with a second album of blackened Speed/Thrash Metal mayhem! Out now via Morbid And Miserable Records in cooperation with Vicious Witch Records.

Blistering leads bring the album in with a triumphant soaring melody before all-out onslaught begins. The violent drumming and malicious vocals wrap around an equally hostile assault of riffing mania. This is some straight-up ripping metallic fury to kick us into action. The rough and ready instrumental bite mixes with those hellish vocals gloriously, achieving a tough street-ready sound that has its punky moments but retains that underground metal savagery. There’s a rawness to things that feels very home-made which adds to the charm of the record. That said, everything is clear and sharp enough to get the point in your face. Stay with it and the rabidness only grows as does the speed…

Speed, darkness and chaos relentless fire on all cylinders from start to end. This record is a furious concoction of d-beats, sleaze and mayhem that’ll be the perfect soundtrack to armageddon. If you like high speed, high velocity metal carnage, then you’ll adore this. There’s plenty of melody and even more aggression that will keep you on your toes. The short burst of energy approach to an album like this definitely stops it getting stale and complacent, the ideas feel fully formed and overall I had a great time spinning through this a couple times. Time will tell how well it holds up but I’m confident thrashers who like a venomous cut of blasphemous vitriol will really enjoy this and there’s enough versatility to keep it fresh throughout.

This is a simple, straight-forward and ripping half hour of evil thrashing mania. A rabid record that is well worth its short running time to check out. Fans of Wraith and Hellripper will be pleased by Acid Mass’s similarities and inclusion of members from said bands as guests, as well as members from Faithxtractor and Savage Master. Overall there’s not a lot new here but if you salivate for this sound, I can’t think of a reason you won’t be banging to this short slice of savagery.
