ALBUM REVIEW: Blood Feast – Infinite Evolution

Legendary New Jersey Thrash Metal horde BLOOD FEAST are back with their fourth record. Out via Hells Headbangers on July 12th.

After a short introduction eerie guitars bring the horror from the depths to life with strong percussion punctuating through the whammy dives. Soon the thrashing rage kicks in with melodic riffing, furious leads, pounding drums and impactful low end. Maniacal vocals add further extreme aggression to the savage assault, blasting old school Thrash Metal so damn powerful that only a classic 80s band still going strong could muster. Clearly Blood Feast have not strayed from the path, in fact I really dig their newer records as well as the classics, which can be rare for an older band to remain consistent. Thankfully these bangers still rage just as hard though, taking their insane musicianship to new heights while keeping the savage edge of the music very much present. The deathly touches to the sound give it a really killer bite and the production is perfectly old school, allowing their superb songs to flow freely with all of the wild spirit that they still harness.

Brutality reigns here, as the mayhem of 80s Thrash Metal proves to still hold all of the impact it did back then. The powerful delivery of the whole band showcases them as a unit that has plenty of fight left in them. Those bands who kept that more traditional angle and yet surged with an extreme touch will always be a niche I favour and Blood Feast embody that to this day. Each track is packed with passionate energy and fills the veins with electrifying excitement. Melody and rawness dance together into oblivion as we destroy all in our paths to the raging chaos of “Infinite Evolution”, which remains from start to end a really engaging and scathing listen. There is some roughness around the edges and janky parts, but sometimes they just add to the charm. Additionally the occasional dissonant Voivodian flares really throw some flavour into the mix. This remains a straightforward enjoyable record which delivers what you want without bells and whistles. Nine new tracks of total mayhem for you bangers, do not miss it!

Okay “Kill For Pleasure” and the “Face Fate” EP may always be regarded as ‘the classics’, but much like the other recent LP and EP from 2017 and 2018 respectively, Blood Feast prove they still have high quality songs to offer the Thrash Metal underground. Continuing such a strong legacy, this new record is a killer addition and one I really enjoyed. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel or change it up, this is proud to be a simply great album of high-speed metallic adrenaline. Excellent work!

Rating: 7.5 out of 10.
