ALBUM REVIEW: Satanic Priest – …Of Blasphemies And Lust

Following a demo that was killer, El Salvador’s SATANIC PRIEST are back with their debut album of Black-Thrash Metal torment. Out via Vicious Witch Records on May 20th.

A sombre introduction sets a moody tone with some excellent cymbal work, building tension and darkness. A venomous high speed assault soon launches violently into life as a cacophony of guitars and drums fire on all cylinders with demonic vocals piercing the mix. Instantly the air fills with blasphemous evil as the hymns of hades spew forth their sulphuric song. Primitive and howling with a lust for the diabolical, Satanic Priest imbue their entire sound with a formidable force from below. There is a simplicity that relies more on a high energy performance, something they deliver gloriously with the old school attack offered here. Some rocking grooves intersperse the all out mayhem with tight hooks that are equally killer for banging your head.

Only the fastest, most furious and fearsome tracks made the cut. Aside from the introduction we get ten tracks of maniacal music that consistently deliver us to the pits of hell with their first-wave reminiscent relentlessness. Upbeat and unwavering, this is a simply fun and fist-pounding half an hour of heretical anthems packed with lust, filth and sleaze. The power of the underground and especially that mental passion south of the USA is strong here and it’s easy to be pulled in by the feisty record in all of its battering charm. If you like your Thrash Metal evil, loud, crude and with a punky blackened edge, Satanic Priest gives us the goods gloriously. Feel the power of bass thunder, barbed wire guitars and whisky drenched vocals atop endless waves of d-beating onslaughts. The rush will grip you from start to end!

Pounding the air with straightforward Black Thrashing Metal madness, Satanic Priest gives us one hell of a solid debut album. There’s no bells or whistles, just bestial rabid anarchy… Taking the formula of fatally wounding extremity and performing with the manic energy required to deliver such a racket, this debut is definitely worth cranking as the soundtrack to some weekend destruction and debauchery.
