New Jersey has a history of killer Death Metal and Altar Of Gore are one such example of a band still carrying the blasphemous flag. As a fan of their debut record, I am excited to hear this follow up. Out via Nameless Grave Records on May 17th.
Bellowing guitars churn a filthy tonality forth with punishing bass and a truly crushing mix. Immediately the ritualistic sense of blasphemous destruction fills the air with equally cool drumming and howling leads. Restless instrumental extremity picks up in the form of blasting debauchery while the vocals are demonically reverberate and evil. Gripping us with meathook grooves and bludgeoning us with slaughtering dirges, the blended and forceful malice of Altar Of Gore picks up where its predecessor left off but with the violence cranked up even higher. There’s something so hostile about those low, lurking guitars and bass with their murky assaults wrapped around pulverising drums that always gets beneath your skin. Here the cacophonous desecrating is truly destructive and the beginning of this album is a slab of triumphant warfare.
Whiplashing ferocity and barrages of malignity convulse and contort into one as this animalistic record develops towards its climax. Each vibrantly dark and subterranean soundscape feels dynamic, with some magnificent mastering from Cruciamentum’s Dan Lowndes. Equally excellent is the artwork from Taylor Smith, whose visions of horror gloriously accompany the sonic torments of the music. Every element of this release despite its small body of creative inputs feels fully fledged, or maybe it is a result of their being so few persons involved. Either way, such visionary violence executed so brilliantly is a commendable feet regardless. Every moment, aesthetic, sound all feels purposeful and necessary with the sadistic might remaining merciless at every twist and turn, for every waking sense. Revel in the splendour of murderous Extreme Metal and how luminescent the black flame is burning here.
Pulsating with unholy vengeance, the new Altar Of Gore record is a bestial collection of unwavering blasphemies. Each track is a hymn of unholy desecration that is packed with vicious musicianship and equally indomitable vocals. Continuing their legacy of lacerating barbarity, this venture of extremity is supremely impressive. Triumphant ’til the last, check out this ruthless record if you salivate for sepulchral savagery and bear witness to its venomous anthems from the underworld. Definitely one for fans of Beherit, Profanatica and Von.
