Swedish true Heavy Metal warriors TYRANN are back with their second album, out now via Electric Assault Records. Let’s jump right back into Djävulens musik…
Jumping straight in with the obviously Iron Maiden worshipping lead single, that has their bands Swedish imprint heavily placed upon it, one can immediately tell this is going to be a banger of rambunctious Heavy Metal. The melodic guitars and clear-cut bass with simple but effective production evokes a classic and anthemic feeling in their music that is impossible not to bang your head to. As with their debut, there is a very straightforward approach to the music that is is impossible not to get clawed in by with its primitive charm and passionate execution. The tangible love for playing rocking music is palpable and inescapable which makes it a pleasure to listen to.
Forging forward, each track is like a knockout blow from The Devil, whose boxing glove toting incarnation is the bands fitting mascot. Their slightly sloppy execution and warbling vocals, mostly in Swedish, have such a gritty charm to them that brings bands like Onyx, Wizzard and Mindless Sinner to mind, showing that true Heavy Metal is far from dead in Sweden. Although often a bit rough around the edges, this adds to the very authentic and unpolished feel to the record and is certainly not a jab at the musicianship which has some really killer playing and creative flourishes within their fist-pumping framework.
Strong ’til the end, this record is unrelenting. Mostly staying in fairly mid-paced territory but with tasteful gallops, Cirith Ungol style doominess and even some more speeding moments are touched upon without losing the more rocking rhythm. The pace works gloriously for this short but sharp triumph and does not get dull to hear. If you enjoyed their first record, this will definitely appeal just as much, while hopefully bringing in new fans in. Hearing a bit more dynamic and melody while keeping the sound that made their debut special intact, this is exactly what I hoped for from this follow-up. The band are making their live debut at the legendary Muskelrock, so hopefully this means more shows to come as both records have plenty of tracks that will rule live! Until then, face the tyrant, burn with me and do whatever else you gotta do while blasting The Devil’s music!
Another excellent slab of The Devil’s Heavy Metal from Tyrann. This trio of Swedish bangers give a simplistic, raw and energetic (“Rå Energi”) performance that is contagious, passionate and delivers 8 anthems of fury to be consumed time and time again. Prepare to be possessed…
