Denmark’s latest addition to their festering København scene is IMPERIOUS MORTALITY, playing a grotesque abomination of Death Metal brutality. Their debut is set for late 2021 release via Desiccated Productions.
Blundering into a deadly blend of tight Death Metal that feels more aligned with American pioneers Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Pyrexia and Polish bands like Vader, this is going to be a ruthless 4 tracks. The rhythmic prowess of the drums is monstrous with some technical riffs and really cool bass lines that warp with the guitars in an inhuman symbiosis. Now I am aware plenty of rotten Death Metal maniacs will see the word technical and run away. I do not mean some lame iteration of guitarists showing off alongside misplaced growls, this thing is a heaving beast of old school Death Metal just one with rather impeccable musicianship. It doesn’t sound clinical, yet the band clearly have a strong vision and have their songs incredibly well-rehearsed to deliver a singular, vicious and utterly brutal quadrilogy of savagery.
The atmosphere of the record is more akin to a post-apocalyptic piece of Science Fiction than that of a decaying cemetery at night, which perhaps is not for everyone, however the band do their thing in such a relentlessly heavy and musically impressive fashion while keeping true to Death Metal’s most important elements and not turning into some tepid chug-fest. The soloing is sublime, on “Slave To Repression” for instance, which doesn’t go overboard, but uses a nice melodic sweep. This is a useful microcosm to exemplify this band a much more 90s version of Brutal Death Metal which has that foreboding atmosphere still intact amongst the more technical flourishes. The balance here is nailed and certainly a brilliant first release which already can stand on its own two feet.
