The debut EP of Germany’s EYEMASTER is due to unleash Death Metal carnage via Caligari Records on November 12th.
Unearthly reverberations lead into eldritch riffing with that classic buzzsaw tone that delivers a slow, pulsating crawl of malevolent Death Metal in the 90s vein. The immense groove of the riffs naturally jumps into a feisty d-beat with some killer lead work before those bellowed vocals that seem to pay tribute to the late LG Petrov join the mix. Talking of mix, the production is gritty and has all the nasty gnarled edges that one would want on an EP like this without cutting corners. The first song is a pungent opus of creeping, catchy and savage Death Metal in the Swedish tradition, a superb opener. In the wake of the more Death ‘n’ Roll fusion of the a-side, “Festering Slime” delivers a more direct approach that is still packed with those killer hooks but feels more aggressive in execution. Entombed worship of such high quality may not break new ground, but that doesn’t have to be the case when 8 minutes can be such a gargantuan cascade of rotten Death Metal magnificence. Excellent riffing, bludgeoning drums and butchering vocal deliver, it is all here and Eyemaster play true Swedish Death Metal loud ‘n’ proud with no remorse.
A vile EP of pure Swedish Death Metal worship that uphold tradition and delivers 2 memorable cuts of meaty mayhem. Consistent and furious, these tracks are a superb taster of hopefully more rotten tunes from Eyemaster.
