EP REVIEW: Morbid Messiah – Disgorged In The Coffin

Mexico, the home of some of the best Death Metal, past and present, spawned an entity called MORBID MESSIAH back in 2015. Following an EP and a crushing album, a new EP of malice is here. Out via Chaos Records on September 24th.

Tasteful samples start off the violence with an unsettling cut of horror before bludgeoning riffs and blast beats open a chasm of pure vitriol. The maniacally growled vocals are just as menacing as the foreboding and primal riffs or hammering drums they lay upon, this is scathing Death Metal in the old school Mexican way. Storming songs lacerate all in their path on this concise but utterly remorseless EP that delivers vicious bedlam of magnificent proportions. The filthy production allows the blistering nature of the music to seethe in a natural climate without compressing the character out of the band. Throughout the blasting sections, the cymbal work cascades upon skull-splitting snare assaults while the riffs serpentine around the beats, waiting to strike with their malignant blend of brutality. Spewing through the mix, the vocal incantations of terror give us a remarkably grim performance. Occasional lead breaks pierce the mix with a bout of shredding before disappearing again in true to form late 80s fashion, something that really adds a classic flavour to the bands sound. This is a pure bestial Death Metal inferno, bare witness to the scourge of verminous extremity and revel in its vile afflictions.

Morbid Messiah’s return is a triumphant, bold and relentless one. High-speed, skin-tearing Death Metal that will sink its teeth into your flesh, rip you apart and leave you yearning for more of their macabre musical violations. Definitely an unmissable release for all the old school maniacs who seek the true Mexican Death Metal sound of the glory days.

Rating: 8 out of 10.
