Ohio Death Metal horde NUNSLAUGHTER are back to add a 6th full length to their monolithic discography of barbaric madness. Out via Hells Headbangers on August 27th.
Launching us right in with a hellish inferno of extremity with blast beats and vile riffs to back up a slew of blasphemous snarls and grunts, Nunslaughter waste no time in making sure everyone knows they are back with a vengeance. Those grooving blends of blasts and stomping drums alongside equally brutal guitars and rather smooth bass work feels just as exciting and venomous as ever, especially when paired with those grimy and varied vocal assaults, this is clearly going to be another onslaught of epic proportions. Shrouded in darkness yet most important, direct and scathing as ever, the earlier tracks on this bestial warfare do not let up with their monstrously in-your-face approach. Rampant sections of grinding instrumentals continually give us that pure Death-Thrashing madness that has always made Nunslaughter a force to be reckoned with, while the memorable mid-tempo sections give the tracks a groove that stays with you, demanding you to return to this unholy opus for more.
With a hearty 14 tracks punching in at around 35 minutes, these maniacs deliver plenty of material with a blundering momentum that does not relent. Interestingly, the songs do not feel cut short, rather they just do their thing and get on with the next before any individual ideas overstays its welcome. This kind of full-bore approach to putting an album together is a huge draw for Nunslaughter and, to me at least, why their albums do not become boring. Slower albums, more experimental albums and generally more expansive albums work fantastically for some bands, but getting down and dirty with a Death-Thrashing hell-strike, that is what these guys came to do and they do it damned well. The way we see ferocious riffing give way to some chunky bass gives it a real 80s tastefulness before returning to another disgustingly twisted artillery drop of total hatred. This is exactly what we all wanted from Nunslaughter’s return, a malevolent and demonic slice of desecrating Death Metal filth.
Another devastating opus of blasphemy and morbid death from Ohio’s Death Metal legends. Nunslaughter’s vitriolic new album is as seething as ever and will ultimately obliterate all that stands in their way. Total ripping death is promised and delivered without remorse.
