EP REVIEW: Witch Vomit – Abhorrent Rapture

WITCH VOMIT are back with a vicious new EP of Death Metal delights, out now via 20 Buck Spin.

Tasteful horror samples give us a creepy and unnerving introduction, preparing us for total devastation. Battering blastbeats, vomitous vocals and pestilent riffs fire into an inferno of scathing Death Metal without warning. It is obvious that Witch Vomit’s return is triumphant from the off. Spewing with graven energy and whammy dive bombs completing the murky ferocity, this material has that venomous groove interspersing total viscera that lurches through high-tempo barbarity with remorseless intensity. The creeping mid tempo sections are where Witch Vomit really inject some dastardly atmospherics into these songs, taking us into the belly of the crypt to meet unspeakable monstrosities. From the maniacal riffing to the molten solos and with a remarkably energetic drum performance and grotesque vocals, there is no weak link in this chain. The reeking doomy moments tie in gorgeously with the rotten cascades of high speed savagery to give us a diverse performance in under 20 minutes. Interestingly we see some almost War Metal flare come into this record which only accentuates the heaviness and brutality on show. 4 songs of rancidity with no frills or pompousness, just sheer and unfaltering Death Metal. Absolutely magnificent.

A to-the-point cut of violent Death Metal excellence, once again showing the ferocity of Witch Vomit in glorious light. Not only is this a superb follow up to their last record but a perfect taster for those unaware of this mighty Death Metal force.
