EP REVIEW: Phantom Fire – Return Of The Goat

Norway’s Black-Speed Metallers PHANTOM FIRE recently spewed their debut EP into the Bergen underground. Out now via Edged Circle Productions.

Pounding drums and savage riffs fire right into action with a barbaric blend of pure Blackened Speed Metal might! The fast-paced, high-octane carnage is filthy with maniacal vocals to match the butchery of the instrumental onslaught. Charged with old school energy and a refreshingly extreme take on things, this is a bestial ride through hellfire that only lasts 6 minutes, but in this time chews up the the listener and spits them into the abyss. I get the impression there is a larger work planned, based off of the feeling here that feels like unfinished business which counts both for and against it. It feels like a taste of something excellent to come, which of course is the point of a 7″ anyway, but it is also a bit grievous not having that something more already! Clearly the work of great musicians, who have plentiful experience, delivering a great slice of ferocity. Anyways, I will wrap this up as I don’t wish to talk for longer than it takes you to listen for yourself! Ripping Black-Speed Metal from Norway that is definitely worth a blast!

Rating: 7.5 out of 10.
