Danish Death Metal horde DEIQUISITOR are back with a new EP of abominable desecrations. Out on February 5th via Nightshroud Records, Dark Descent Records and Extremely Rotten Productions.
Static noise starts the release with the bellowing of convulsive riffs and monstrous drum assaults quickly ensuing. The cavernous, reverb-drenched Death Metal instrumentation is met with guttural spewing vocals, truly a formidable sound to behold. The intricacies of the guitars and drums concoct a foreboding and almost ethereal style of brutality that is as savage as it is nuanced with excellent, disturbing ideas. Deiquisitor have never delivered standard Death Metal, always thinking outside the box and daring to venture into new charnel realms with their barbaric sounds, once more on “Humanoid” we begin to see a twisted vision unfurl from early on. Pulverising force continues to be dropped unrelentingly with a remorseless approach to the whole mix, delving into the murky underbelly of Death Metal with bestial aggression in abundance.
Blending technicality with a raw, primitive style of Death Metal is always going to be a hard balance to achieve, yet one Deiquisitor seem to always nail. The astounding abilities of the whole band are not hard to see yet they impressively conjure these monstrous soundscapes with a feral energy that doesn’t render the music polished or weak-sounding. Blundering forth, the riffs and drums bludgeon us with mighty ferocity while the grunts of the vocals add even more magnificently demonic sounds to the mix. The chunky tone of the guitars and the pounding drum onslaught really do hit the spot with providing an intense listen that envelops you with a old school yet non-derivative approach to extremity that is refreshing and yet somehow familiar. Following gloriously in the charging morbidity of their last full-length, there is no less energetic brilliance nor killer ideas on this EP.
Grinding forth, the record does not relent or take time to rejuvenate energy, sampling driving onwards with a powerful display of crushing Death Metal mastery that is quite clearly the work of experienced, talented and passionate musicians whom not only have enviable skill but a unique and devastatingly brutal approach to their craft. It is almost impossible to believe just how tight and consistent this band is, at least that would be the case had I not been front row at a show of theirs and seen this insanity up-close for myself. Solos are sparsely used but when they do come in, the technicality is yet again superb with unearthly leads wailing over the obliterating rhythm sections. Heed this call, allow the talons of Deiquisitor’s newest offering to rip you to shreds at the earliest possible moment in which you can.
If Deiquisitor still haven’t made it to your ears, this EP is a marvellous introduction for any Death Metal maniac seeking a ferocious and unique band who still hold the old school spirit at heart. Those already initiated will be greeted with another superb slab of Danish brilliance and be left awe-stricken once again.
