ALBUM REVIEW: Apraxic – Edge Of Human

US grinding Death Metallers APRAXIC are back with a new album of vitriolic savagery. Out in mid-December via the equally ruthless Headsplit Records.

A vomitous slew of rancid riffs and crawling drums fire into a bellowing convulsion of filthy Death Metal with maniacally snarled vocals to complete the murky, raw and indigestible sounds. This is clearly not going to be messy Deathgrind but a far more thick, tarry and pustulant slab of rotten grooves and meaty spewed verses. A cascade of bestially-charged assaults falls with a rain of malice as we descent further into a crypt of putrid extremity, Apraxic certainly deliver the goods with excellently grotesque Death Metal. Forging an iron grip of chaotic and yet concisely punchy ideas, there is clearly a strong development for Apraxic to find their sound which is concocted with utmost disgusting and malignant craftsmanship.

The pulverising blend of gruelling heaviness does not relent with a restlessly shifting and yet never faltering blend of cavernous riffing, ferocious blastbeats and insanely warped vocals. Reeking of apocalyptic visions, this is not easily dismissed as gross for the sake of gross. Underneath the lurching pustulenct Death Metal veil is some interesting lyrical content and a pretty unique approach to the music. While sonically this is far from reinventing the wheel or breaking new ground, the fact that this storm of vile brutality is totally killer is inarguable. Barbaric stomps overrule the release with so many catchy moments, you will find yourself headbanging the whole way through this ripping slab of fury.

A triumphant slab of chaotic but groove-laden Death Metal with a mighty instrumental punch that backs up some gruesome vocals gloriously. If you enjoy your Death Metal deep-set in murky and visceral realm of darkness where each riff feels genuinely stringy, then this album is totally worth your time. -8/10
