Turkish Death Metal titans ENGULFED are back with a new EP. Out via Dark Descent Records and Me Saco Un Ojo Records on December 7th.
A crushing array of ferocious riffs, pulverising drums and grisly growls bellow into fruition with a thick, deep and brooding style of Death Metal that reeks of archaic tombs and rotten realms that are conjured by obscure and mysterious sounding instrumentals and vocals. With a lineup of seasoned Death Metallers it is hardly surprising that this cavernous display of doomy and eerie yet brutally furious extremity is so damned good. Hooks tendrils into your skull from the onset, the warped convulsions only contort further into spectral soundscapes with a punishing variety of musical magnificence being called upon. A warmth to the bass drives the intricate riffs in with monolithic force while titanic drums hit with equal magnitude to reaffirm the monstrous sounds alongside gutturally spewed vocals that are no less putrid. A truly devastating piece of work.
Charging forth, this unwavering slab of doomy obliteration does not falter for a moment as the gargantuan riffs progress into charnel convulsions with brilliant rhythm and lead work ensnaring each other to create a real spectacle of killer musicianship. Snappy drum fills burst through the atmosphere to rebuild the sound as one lurking monstrosity of eldritch horror, something that is done with true craftsmanship. Malignant offerings continue to rain upon us with caustic acidity as the visceral hooks and expansive tracks merge into a disgustingly odious blend of decimating assaults and brain-liquidising doomy cascades. This towering opus of morbidity has so much to offer in 25 minutes, wasting not a second at delivering high-quality, atmospheric, creepy and massive sounding Death Metal. A masterful release with every moment as exciting as the last until you are sucked into oblivion.
This is an utterly phenomenal slice of unique Death Metal. Dripping with cavernous soundscapes of horror while not losing any of the driven charge that keeps things extremely brutal, the balance is near perfection. Engulfed bring forth a chasm of ripping instrumental and vocal excellence that forms a fantastic EP that is absolutely not to be missed by any Death Metal fans. -9/10
