ALBUM REVIEW: Omegavortex – Black Abomination Spawn

German Black-Death Metal barbarians OMEGAVORTEX have conjured a following of devoted followers across a series of promo-tapes and a compilation of said promos, they have now unveiled their debut full length of abyssal darkness via Invictus Productions and Deathworx.

Scathing guitars and blastbeats erupt directly into a bestial spew of extremity with maniacal vocals. It is clear that this release is going to be equally abrasive and noisy as it is relentless aggressive as the raw production and feedback conveys a repugnant cascade of discordantly psychotic instrumental and vocal blasphemy. Superbly gritty and unpleasant, this is exactly the kind of Blackened Death Metal designed to repulse the majority while the few who “get” this sound will utterly adore the restless convulsions of terrifyingly barbaric and unhinged sound. The lead guitar work is just as abusive of the instruments as all the other sections, concocting pure chaotic might in the vein of the Uppsala Black-Death Metal style with a touch of Necrovore’s savagery added for good measure. Certainly a pungent and glorious display of truly dark and daunting Extreme Metal.

As we delve deeper into the sepulchral storms of defiant music, there is a lurking atmosphere that resides in the bestial assaults, transporting us to the deepest catacombs of horror. Devilish rhythms retain the scorn that the record set off with while giving a somewhat nuanced groove subtly placed underneath a bellowing maelstrom of otherworldly and dissonant ferocity. Those who can withstand the horrendously ruthless and striking onslaught will certainly find a rewarding sense of chaotic tension that is expansive yet to-the-point with the brutally structured songs rumbling into the bowels of the abyss. Naturally the punishing style of Extreme Metal that Omegavortex plays is not for the average Black/Death Metal fan, this is music for devotees of maniacal and savage music in the old school vein of bestial and repulsive violence that never offers respite.

Pulling in at over 45 minutes, this is a rather long album for the stylistic approach yet never drags into repetitive cycles nor unnecessary pretence. Omegavortex keep everything on track to launch us unforgivingly into the pits of the unknown and keep things ever-evolving with a seamless flow of destructive, obliterating soundscapes that never stray from the punishing and yet enticing grittiness that immediately was recognisable within the first minute of the record. The cruel and visceral songwriting is merciless throughout, landing like a fist through the skull at any given moment. This sense of invasive and warped aggression is tangible from start to end and has no lack of sincerity from any aspect of the release. Everything has its place and reason to be here, no more or less than needed to conjure a barbaric hailstorm of demonic might.

A crushing, devastating and unforgiving debut album that embodies chaos in the form of truly ruthless, unapologetic Black-Death Metal mastery. A definitive stand-out release in the German Extreme Metal underground that deserves and demands the attention of Bestial Metal fiends. -9/10
