ALBUM REVIEW: Night Fighter – Unholy Sepulchre

Scottish Blackened Speed Metal project NIGHT FIGHTER have delivered their debut album. Out now via Narbentage Produktionen (tape) and Alone Records (CD/vinyl).

Quiet ambient sampling and spoken word starts the release off in creepy fashion. Fearsome riffs and storms of drums fire into a blitzkrieg onslaught of pure thrashing madness with anthemic quality and pure 80s Metal madness in abundance. Lunatic wailing vocals spread the devilish gospel over more ferocious riffing, pounding drums and thundering bass. There is a really chunky groove to the somewhat raw extremity that is memorable and perfectly suited to the howled vocals, delivering speeding carnage with no remorse. Melodic yet simple solos add a soulful and energetic lead attack to the ruthless rhythm sections in short spurts that accentuate that 80s feel even more. Bringing in a mixture of early Kreator and Sodom, Sarcofago and Vulcano then giving it the anthemic touches of Accept and Judas Priest with a blackened touch, truly magnificent.

Blistering on, the 30 minute record is packed with tight musicianship and catchy songs that raise hell and force us to join the tornado of blasphemy. The blend of Teutonic Thrash and South-American savagery in the sound blended with NWOBHM gallops is truly impactful and honours the forefathers of Extreme Metal gloriously. Each track is a formidable force, contorting into a grander picture of a demonic, slaughtering full length. The solos work well with the sound as I mentioned and with a little tightening up, this could be something unstoppable, with this first album being a perfect footprint in the scene to start the journey. Pure thundering storms of Heavy Metal butchery that is as barbaric as it is catchy and melodious, there is so much to delve into on this short release that is absolutely worthwhile.

If you dig Black/Thrash/Speed/Heavy Metal of any variant and hold any regard for the genres inception then this is something that will demand your respect, if you do not, frankly this website is not going to be to your taste anyway. Loyal readers, maniacal newcomers and all savages between, check out this titanic slab of Blackened Speed Metal madness posthaste. -8/10
