A new split arises from the undergrounds depths, combing Black-Thrash legends DESASTER with the equally morbid Black Metallers in DECAYED! Out via Helldprod Records and Chaosphere Recordings on October 31st.
Teutonic maniacs Desaster start things off with bleak and desolate lead passages of haunting guitar work, infusing the true and classic sound of Heavy Metal into whatever Blackened Thrash warfare lies ahead. Hammering drums and savage riffs back up a slew of visceral snarls, blasting through a rampage of noisy and chaotic, hellish Metal. The deathly growls that build from this suit the mystical and driven forces of the guitars and drums ferocious battery, delivering us into the promised land of crushing Extreme Metal, something Desaster have done consistently well for many years. Butchering us with fearsomely raw material that I believe to be exclusive to this 7″ split, a real treat from the belly of the beast and hopefully an insight into what lies ahead from these German Metal masters.
Following up Desaster is not an enviable task, in this case it falls on the band Decayed from Portugal who certainly have a respectable catalogue to influence this choice. A savage grunt drops us into a raw, scathing and bestial slice of monstrous Black Metal, executed in the first wave method with a lo-fi crawl of primitive riffs and ghoulishly spectral energies emanating from the simplistic yet thunderous barbarism. Occultist soundscapes are concocted in a daunting way to follow Desaster’s thrashing madness, fitting together wonderfully with this eerie piece of demonic incantations. Galloping bass cuts through darkened guitar passages to give it a real 80s kick while the gnarly vocals and pummelled drums hold the extremity firmly in their sights.
This split is a pure hailstorm of Heavy Metal magick. Delivering demons, hellfire and ferocity with no remorse in the old school way. The joining of two legendary forces on a 7″ that may be short but will leave you rotten and then feast on the remains. Total sonic artillery of the highest order. -8/10
