American Death-tinged, Black-Thrash Metallers SARCOPTES have a brand new EP to follow their 2016 debut album. This new EP is set for release via Transcending Obscurity Records on October 2nd.
Grotesque samples set the mood before a tight thrashing cascade of maniacal riffs, hammering blastbeats and savage howls forcefully jump into life. The tight, almost technical approach to blasphemous Black-Thrash is certainly pretty unique, taking the place of sleaze with precision-driven brutality. Surging onwards, the carnage associated with the genre is certain left intact as we are delivered into a bestial array of barbaric yet profoundly skilful instrumental sections. Organs, Black-Thrash, Technical Death Metal and total chaos all meet on this two track EP in rather interesting fashion to make for a certainly diverse and surprisingly smooth listen. Sure the transitions could use some refinement, but seriously with so many elements to their sound, this is a tiny detail to critique.
Sarcoptes have an admirable amount of passion for playing a bit of everything in their memorable, one-off brand of Black-Thrash-Death mayhem that has a real charm. Crushing musicianship and a flawless execution of these ideas makes it all the more enjoyable to see them progress through a varied arsenal of Extreme Metal. If it wasn’t for the impeccable skills of these musicians, this EP could feel like a huge mess, but these two guys nail it fantastically. Immersive and restless, there is no escaping the brutal, aggressive serenades once you get started, in fact it is rather sad it ends so quickly as there is clearly much more that Sarcoptes have to offer. This is a fine taster that will ignite the interest of underground maniacs and I, for one, look forward to seeing where they build on this next. -8/10
