The debut album from old school Death Metal mob KOMMAND is here, out now via Maggot Stomp Records.
Grisly riffs churn in with crashing cymbals and bellowed vocals, drawing out some doomy yet visceral mid-tempo barbarity. The onslaught of Bolt Thrower style sounds hits hard with the pungent offal left behind from warfare. Atmospheric and disturbing, this distinguished sound is tight yet brooding with a raw chaos that hammers into the skull like a rusted nail. With creepy and spectral riffs we also see some relentless pounding drums and otherworldly growls, taking the “terrorscape” to the listener. Clearly we are in for a real treat of marvellously malicious Death Metal excellence.
Forging onwards, the convulsive grooves bend into expansive soundscapes of pure aggression and brutality, with plenty of variation to set Kommand out from the crowd. Warped riffs intermingled with the savage spew of vocals and cascades of drum artillery leave no stone of odious ideas unturned. Blistering solos complete the ruthless concoctions of rhythmic devastation, while the low-end crawls are where we really get pummelled. A truly fierce and exciting performance from the whole band that obliterates all in their pathway, surging forth with an unshakable confidence.
Rupturing any victim brave enough to stick around, the whole album rips through claustrophobic layers of dense instrumentals and cavernous atmospherics with a perfectly gruesome vocal performance to match the morbid march into visceral Death Metal ecstasy. Unhinged and ever-evolving, the sound of this album takes the aforementioned likeness to Bolt Thrower and expands upon it in a cavernous manner that is inescapably enjoyable. While experimenting with tempos and musical changes that might shock long-time Maggot Stomp followers, Kommand manage to still retain a primal drag to their music, never losing touch with their barbaric brutality.
The hype surrounding this band and the delivery of their debut album is well-deserved. This is some flawlessly rotten Death Metal that churns forth a dark and unsettling atmosphere while viciously slaying any ideas of weakness with vanquishing instrumentals and a raw production. Listen, if you are ready to be devoured. -8.5/10
