Argentinian Death Metallers ATAUDES are releasing their debut album via Desert Wasteland Productions on July 3rd.
Creepy sampling kicks us off with a really disturbing and unhinged introduction, certainly heightening anticipation for the Death Metal onslaught ahead. Visceral riffs convulse into life with hammering drums, pounding in unison with the guitars to create a devastating blend of brutality which is met with maniacally growled vocals. This is some putrid and very old school Death Metal which gets a real dissonant twist from some creepy lead guitars. Pulverising and violent, the swinging grooves and malevolent instrumentals conjure a storm of pure vitriol which at times even touches on some Black Metal sounds, though keeping firmly in the Death Metal camp with obliterating musicianship.
For old school Death Metal, this is surprisingly atmospheric with some really haunting breaks in the crushing assault. Keeping in the eerie vein they set out in, Ataudes have some superbly evil sounding guitars which crawl alongside some insane cymbal work, perfectly blended with a slew of harsh vocal snarls. Punishingly heavy blastbeats and tremolo picked guitars spew deathly and doomy sections through the generally more fierce sections, creating a tremendous blend of all things morbid and offering some totally killer Death Metal excellence. This is some riveting material which will certainly pull in the attention of old school Extreme Metal lovers.
This is the kind of tasteful Death Metal to assault all of the senses with its wickedly macabre atmospherics, decimating grooves and ravenous blasting rampages. The Argentinian underground has offered something which will certainly infect the taste of Death Metallers around the globe who wish for something a bit different yet familiarly old school in approach. With fantastic musicianship and a raw, murky production, nobody can deny this feels like a lost treasure of the 90s with some more modern twists thrown in to keep things exciting and fresh. Disgustingly eerie and packed with carnage, this opus of grave-crawling mystique will shatter the skulls of those who dare to seek it out.
A ferocious debut that has a lot to offer in 30 minutes. Guttural stomps, magnificently aggressive blasts, drawn out atmospherics and a well-rounded approach to everything. The volatile and diverse nature of the record is crushing and rips through the speakers with its brutality. From the high-speed rampages to the creepier slower parts, Ataudes have a brilliantly grim and defiling sound that hits all the right spots. -8/10
