Swiss Death-Thrash Metal legends MESSIAH are back with a brand new EP of thrashing morbid Metal. Out via High Roller Records on August 7th.
Tight riffs punch into life with pounding drums and gruesome vocals, the maniacal nature of Messiah is back with full force. Visceral and dark, there is a clear similarity to bands like Vader which gives a demonic feeling to the music, crawling through passages of insanity. With a ultra clear production we get to hear every note, beat and snarl with the monolithic mix allowing the band to convey their forceful Death-Thrash flawlessly. Blistering solos pierce through the rhythmic battery with impressive skill, retaining that old school feel in the music. Crushing and intoxicatingly evil, this is pure old school Death Metal carnage in the vein of Possessed, Obituary, Master and other classics.
The creepiness of the EP only grows as the tracks progress through a killer blend of riffs and hammering drums, always accompanied by the guttural snarling vocals. Each of the three tracks offers something devastatingly brutal and rather atmospheric in parts too. Messiah are of course a legendary band, so hearing this material I can confirm they have certainly not lost their touch. Blasting, destructive mayhem is what we get on this new EP which may be short but is an entirely respectable release in its own right. Nasty, malignant and thrashing Death Metal at its best with nothing held back, just rampant energy and fury throughout.
Another tight new slab of concrete Death Metal to add to the discography of these Swiss titans. Truly fantastic and remarkably dense sounding, this is certainly one to bang your head to. All fans of morbid old school Extreme Metal will definitely adore how classic this EP feels while managing not to feel overly derivative. -8/10
