German Blackened Thrash Metal mob WARLUST are back with their second album of ravenous speeding ferocity. Set for release via Dying Victims Productions on April 24th.
Church bells chime in with an ambient yet classic feel to start the record off. Alongside this we are treated to some simplistic but gorgeously tranquil clean guitar work before drums and metallic chords strike in with a built of march of pure Heavy Metal nostalgia. This churning darkness soon chugs forth with a rampant aggression while still somewhat caging the beast before upbeat drums and tremolo riffs alongside superbly chunky bass and blistering leads sets the journey off, at least instrumentally, stunningly.
Savage riffing and hammering blastbeats dive back in for a ravenous Black-Thrash assault with a slight melancholy to the aggressive onslaught akin to fellow Germans Witching Hour. This quickly becomes a masterful blitzkrieg of devastatingly groovy and melodically excellent thrashing destruction. Although it takes a while for vocals to join, they are worth the wait as a monstrous slew of hellish, demonic growls and howls viciously cascade over the monolith of instrumental glory. A crushing and tormenting conjuration of pure morbid monstrosities lurches forth with full force.
Throughout the record Warlust have that classic feeling of bands like Nifelheim while definitely giving their own spin on things with touches of Destroyer 666, Nocturnal Graves, Vomitor and others reminiscent in parts while never ripping them off. Barbaric and riveting, the huge amounts of energy and walls of pure Extreme Metal violence with memorable melodies and utterly brilliant musicianship with a tight production will truly entice all headbangers, of this I am certain. Pure violent, ripping madness that harkens back to the days where Extreme Metal was a melting pot of glorious ideas which never needed specific categorisation, letting the ferocity of the music speak for itself.
This second record is a slab of pure might. Gloriously soaring guitars, thick rhythmic bass and hammering drums in abundance with a monstrously ravenous vocal performance to top it off. There is a never-ending display of killer riffs and intricacies that keep a volatility to the record while never straying from their bestial rampage. Truly a magnificent album of astonishingly catchy and visceral Black-Thrash brilliance. -9/10
