ALBUM REVIEW: Saturnalia Temple – Gravity

Occult Doom Metal legends SATURNALIA TEMPLE are back with a brand new album of ritualistic delights. Out now via Listenable Records.

Subtle and unnerving ambience begins our doomy journey with a simple introduction to set a discomforting mood. Huge crunchy riffs bring us in with a devastatingly heavy display of grooving guitars and built up drums, like a monolith of Doom Metal force that immediately hits hard and grabs you with the enticingly catchy grip of killer songwriting and haunting vocals. The psychedelic touches further trip out into estranged and inhuman progressions that show Saturnalia Temple are not just any occult Doom Metal band but some truly masterful weirdos who make brilliantly twisted music as well as their crushing display of classic, fuzzy riffing.

Not only does this record provide a huge wall of atmospheric excellence but it transports you into an otherworldly realm beyond the mighty musical grooves, incurring a more hypnotic state than your average doomy riffs. The 70’s vibes of this record are beyond what I expected and are marvellously executed to conjure such an astonishingly ritualistic soundscape of pure Doom Metal genius. A killer blend of crushing drums, fiercely droning riffs and minimalistic chanting vocals with a classic rock style production magnificently encompasses all things occult, especially with the keyboard additions that are used just the right amount. Doom Metal fans, this record is a must for your next rites of sonic annihilation, do not miss it.

Saturnalia Temple have outdone themselves, this has definitely fuelled the fires of excitement for the set at Cataleptic Rites. Chilling, spectral magnificence in the form of delightfully unhinged, hauntingly atmospheric and viciously groove Doom Metal. In consensus, an obliterating hammer of pure occult musical might. -8.5/10
