DEMO REVIEW: Muscipula – Little Chasm Of Horrors

The debut demo from MUSCIPULA is coming, promising some filthy old school, Finnish inspired Death Metal, this should be a nasty one. Out via Caligari Records on February 28th.

Crunchy bass thunders in with a crusty slew of slow-tempo guitars riffs and crashing drums. Bellowing vocals are used sparingly over the crawl of monotonously savage riffs, to create this marching storm of crushingly brutal Death Metal morbidity. Unhinging in its drawn out blend of gruesomeness, the foreboding tension generated by such a devastatingly heavy style of Death Metal is monolithic. The band continue by grinding out some tightly wound tremolo riffs over Bolt Thrower style drum work with harrowing howled vocals. This cavernous stylistic choice is performed gloriously with a brilliant pace to the whole demo that grows, convulses and obliterates with tormentingly heavy material being offered. Aside from the obvious comparison due to the title of the demo, I think fans of Dipygus will definitely be interested in this one. Doomy breaks deliver even more macabre atmospherics while still keeping that gritty Mortician style bass-drive crunch. This first demo sounds huge, utterly disgusting and marvellously punchy. Certainly one to check out from the ever-growing “old school Death Metal” movement, showing that this sound is far from finished. The destructive impact of this grooving, twisted three-track demo will have you writing in filth as the sewer drenched riff-driven madness consumes you. -8.5/10
