Singaporean War Metallers IMPIETY are back with their ninth full length album, out now via Shivadarshana Records and Evil Dead Productions.
Introduced by some rather fantastical symphonic work, this album has a huge ambience to follow up or decimate with utter savagery, but whichever way they go (presumably the latter), there is no denying this is a brilliant introduction. Fierce drums and blasphemous guitars drive in an onslaught of pure blackened hatred with gutturals snarls and a raw mix to finish this punishing soundscape of tormenting aggression. Bombarding us with primitive riffing and skull-crushing drum work, there is an impenetrably brutal sound that was only lacking whammy dives, which take about a minute to appear. Impiety have no lack of experience which shows in their energetic delivery and tight musicianship which when they divert briefly from the barbaric flow of savagery for the occasional progression you can see the prowess of their skills which never become obnoxious or over-utilised, favouring a simplistic but undeniably caustic assault of pure Blackened Death Metal disdain. Thrashing and chaotic, the flame of untamed and maniacal Metalheads is firmly held at the core of this discombobulating affair. A hailstorm of shrapnel and debris is all that is left in the wake of such extreme and violent music that has been delivered with utmost destruction. One might assume that such fearsome music would lack melody or atmosphere, but that would be incorrect as somehow Impiety manage to get plenty of both in this album while never sacrificing the churning morbid barrage that is so prevalent in their career. Unrelentingly energetic and ferociously harsh, this album seems to be over in the blink of an eye due to the sheer amount of forcefulness packed into under forty minutes with a diversely enticing blend of ideas which have been focused into a nasty slab of filth magnificently. If you like your Heavy Metal to hurt, this is one for you and it is ravenous. Pure bestial madness. -8.5/10
