KARKOSA launched there debut EP back in 2018 which I am revisiting for a review. Out now via Dark Horizon Records.
Creepy soundscapes set us off on this short journey into Extreme Metal. Grisly guitars and ferocious drums alongside snarling vocals drive out a strong feeling of Belphegor with a disturbingly brutal blackened assault of pure grim Extreme Metal disdain. The hammering instrumentals and grisly vocals deliver a ravaging onslaught of hellish Death Metal with plentiful Black Metal touches (especially on the vocals). The production and performance alike are incredibly tight with astoundingly proficient musicianship to really hit the nail into the coffin with atmospheric and crushing Metal of the highest quality. There are some nice experimental touches and interesting rhythmic changes to keep things interesting and exciting, showcasing further the excellence of the musicians behind this project. Sometimes the Brutal Death Metal influence on the drum production can seem a bit overkill but otherwise there is some fantastic blastbeats and savage riffs and screams to accompany them. The sheer technicality amidst the bludgeoning music is impeccable and certainly noticeable in terms of the talent this band possesses. This is a damn impressive first EP and has tons of potential to be focussed into a really solid Blackened Death Metal armageddon squad. Definitely give this band a spin if you enjoy the more accessible take on Blackened Death Metal with barrages of guttural aggression and catchy hooks. -8/10
